Djudi's thought
by Sylvia Currie
To my "matter" and "mattress"
My belly gots swollen but I still had my thought
So I wrote it down quick, well, it's the only one that I got!
Just want you to know that my life was the best
But see after chores and the fun I chust needed to rest
See, every day and all night a puppy's always on guard
'coz there could be a burger or white cat in the yard
Plus even after meals I'd be extra alert
Or I'd miss the sound of my bowl gettin' scraps for dessert
'Specially mornings were hard on accounta the chores
first wakin' the family then 'round the yard on all fours
Then after the tour, and keepin' track of the socks
my mattress would take me for big nice long walks
All that diggin' and rollin' and sniffs in the parks
Made me so 'xausted I'd no energy for barks
But my day wasn't over, there was still plenty to do
Had to fluff up the pillows then scratch the door of the loo
Those times I's alone for most of the day
I might get lonely, but that was ok
I'd just stay on the bed and listen with care
So I'd know when to start my trip down the stairs
For my smack on the forehead and a rub on my belly
My favourite lap 'd be welcome though my breath was so smelly
Then the work would start up, had lost kibbles to find
And if my butt got too itchy I'd have that on my mind
'Course if I was lucky and I always was
there'd be a treat then another and that's just because
My matter and mattress said time 'n time again
I's the very best pup and their very best friend
I'd get squeezes and hugs plus lick plates without fail
And they knew I's so happy from my thumpin' tail
I could make them laugh, didn't much have to try
So I was sad on the day what I made them both cry
Just smile at my pictures and 'member the best
'coz sometimes a puppy chust needs a bit of a rest!
